Generac's installation guide says installed home standby systems average $8,000 to $16,000 including the generator. Angi's installation cost guide, based on projects booked through its network, puts the 2026 national average for whole-house generator installation at $5,154, with most homeowners paying between $1,509 and $8,799. The two sources measure different things, so read them side by side rather than as one number.

Neither is a North Las Vegas quote. They're a starting point for budgeting.

What moves a valley install

The air conditioner. The bigger the central air system, the bigger the generator or the more load management it needs. This is the single largest factor in most valley homes.

Distance to the gas meter. A pad close to the Southwest Gas meter needs a short gas line. A spot on the far side of the house, or one the meter can't supply alongside the furnace and water heater, costs more.

The main panel. A newer panel with room to spare is simple. An older or full panel may need work before the transfer switch goes in.

Where the unit sits. Side yards between the house and a block wall are often narrow. The unit needs clearance for airflow and service, which sometimes means a different spot or extra pad work.

Portable hookups cost less

If you already own a portable, an inlet box and panel interlock cost a fraction of a standby system. The portable hookup page explains what's involved and where the limits are.
